I myself have traveled the mentioned route several times with my family but never felt extremes as detailed in the article. My wife and children are always welcomed in every masjid and provided the requisite privacy and facility for performing prayers. This is not only my family's experience but common to many others. Also my impression of the cleanliness is also not that bad, off-course as it is depicted in the article or may be it is because the writer has confirmed and spread his experience of one time as universal. Similarly the extreme examples are given for commitment and product delivery. I do not claim it to be false, but I believe it does not equal to the experiences of many of us and there are many examples exactly opposite to it too.

We have shifted to Islamabad from Karachi while our roots still there so we have traveled between these cities by all means of travel including our own car, but never faced an experience so bad. I wish this article is not to discourage the west to come to Islam or the Islamic cultures and countries. I have also lived in France for some time and have traveled the whole Europe by own car and have many experiences worse than the one detailed in this article.

I do not say we have adopted perfect Islam, but yes we are far more better than many in the west. Looking at some of their cultural values, I believe they have turned into creatures to an irreversible extent. I hope someone can share those experiences too and then compare ours with them to find the truth.

It's my view as a plain Muslim and a Pakistan and not necessarily be in line with the views of others'. Allah knows better and pardon me if I have exceeded ever.

Farid ALVIAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6273083051636343939.post-69006280638608374652012-01-01T16:10:01.183+05:002012-01-01T16:10:01.183+05:00Dear Izhar,

Concentrating on Pakistan only, the on-going poor political culture is responsible for poor governance ever since the early days after partition. Under the present day regime of thugs, the situation has gone from bad to worse.
The condition of washrooms in public places has to be relevant to the general living standards in the country. One cannot expect western styled clean public places in a country where 70% of the population cannot even write their own names and half the population lives on less than a dollar a day, unemployment and lawlessness is rampant.
Regarding the lack of facilities in the mosques for the women worshippers, it is nothing but the local traditions and the religious dogma supported by the local semi-literate mullahs.
Pakistan suffers not only due to the lack of general education, but also in the hands of the mullahs who have interpreted Islam according to their local social and cultural values. After having practiced the religion under such constraints, the norms tend to become what is called the religious dogma. The result is that in Pakistan, the mullahs do not encourage the women to go to the mosques or even the cemeteries.
The general education and proper religious education and training for the mullahs through some kind of regulatory body is essential but all that would be a wishful thinking without good economic conditions in the country and that is not possible without good governance.

JavedAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
